Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis is a life-saving medical procedure used to treat patients with end-stage kidney failure or severe kidney dysfunction. The kidneys are responsible for filtering waste products, excess fluids, and toxins from the blood. When they fail to perform this vital function, hemodialysis takes over by using a machine called a dialyzer to filter the patient’s blood. The procedure involves inserting a needle into a vein, where blood is drawn out, passed through the machine, and then returned to the body after being cleansed. Hemodialysis is typically done several times a week in a hospital or dialysis center and can last several hours per session. The treatment helps control blood pressure, balance electrolytes, and prevent the build-up of toxins that can cause life-threatening complications. While hemodialysis can greatly improve quality of life for kidney failure patients, it requires a strict treatment schedule and lifestyle adjustments.
